Q. Does the library provide a list of items it plans to purchase for the collection?

Answer

We do not provide a list of future purchases.  Some reasons for this  include:

  • We want to avoid placing the title in the catalog without firm knowledge of the “on-sale” date because customers will have a perceived extended wait time.
  •  We want to avoid supply issues created by vendor cancelations when items remain on backorder for extended periods.
  • The majority of professional reviews are usually available to the selectors around two months prior to publication; selectors also consult reviews to help determine age placement and genre assignments.

With audio books, release time and/or availability also varies.  In general, selectors order titles and add them to the online catalog about 30 – 60 days prior to the “on-sale” date for adult print materials and about 30 – 60 days prior to the release of audio and children’s materials.  We encourage our customers to use the Suggestions for the Collection form available online.
