Large print books and audio books (books on CD) are available at all fifteen library branches. Audio books and ebooks with adjustable text can also be downloaded through the GCPL website. All 15 branches also have accessibility tools and kits and customers have access to the following while visiting:
- high visibility keyboard
- a trackball mouse
- a Quicktionary Pen
- a Roberts book holder
- magnifying glasses with 2.2x magnification
- a jumbo 12 digit desktop calculator
- large print 12 inch ruler with tactile Braille numbers
- magnifying sheet with Fresnel lens for reading small type
- pen and pencil grips
- 5 handwriting guides
- high contrast note paper
You can find the following equipment for in-branch use at the Lawrenceville branch:
- Accessibility PC with high contrast keyboard and roller ball mouse*
- JAWS, ZoomText, and Natural Reader text to speech software
- Prodigi electronic magnifier (desktop and handheld)
- Intel Reader with stand
- Brailliant 40 braille display with USB/Bluetooth connection
- Adjustable height tables and chairs
- Assistive Tool Kits for research and homework*
Customers with visual, physical or reading disabilities may be eligible to receive audio or Braille material mailed to their home by the National Library Service via the Northeast Georgia Talking Books Center.
The Gwinnett County Public Library provides a Mailbox Books service for individuals who are not able to come to the library to pick out materials. You can find out more about this service here - Accessibility
You can also find available resources by going to the website for GLS - Georgia Library Service for the blind and print disabled. They recently added a resource list called GLASS RSVP which is a list of organizations that provide services to people with visual and print impairment both in Georgia and nationwide.
