Q. Why did the Gwinnett County Public Library close back down?

Answer

Over the past several months, the library had worked closely with the Gwinnett, Newton, and Rockdale Health Deptartment's director to follow the virus trends and understand Gwinnett’s infection rates, testing capacity, and hospital capacity. There is now substantial data to show Gwinnett’s Covid-19 fighting infrastructure is becoming strained.

There had also been rising numbers of customers visiting the library without masks, exacerbating the potential for germ spread. As dedicated as we are to providing library service, we have reached the point where full service is too great a risk to both customers and staff.

We will continue to monitor the health situation in the county and remain in communication with the Gwinnett, Newton and Rockdale Health Department.  The libraries will reopen at a later date when it has been determined that it is safe to do so.
