What is the Learning Lab, and how do I reserve it?

Answer

The Learning Labs, located in the Centerville, Duluth, Five Forks, Hamilton Mill, Lilburn, Norcross, Peachtree Corners, Snellville and Suwanee branches, provide access to software and equipment for video, music, photography and design projects. If you are a videographer, graphic designer, or even a future rock star, the Learning Lab has the software and equipment to turn your vision into a reality. With the technology in the Learning Lab, you can create and share music, podcasts, movies and photo albums. You can design brochures, e-newsletters, business logos and flyers. You can film, edit and upload interviews for genealogy projects. Your imagination is the architect in the Learning Lab.

One-on-one instruction is available with advanced reservations through our Book A Librarian service. Customers are encouraged to explore the resources on the Learning Lab LibGuide, by following the link below.

Reservations are preferred, but walk-in access may be permitted if the Learning Lab is not in use. The rooms generally accommodate up to 6 people, but some locations like Hamilton Mill and Five Forks accommodate 2 people and the Makerspace at Snellville accommodates 20. A reservation is for two hours. Reservations will be held for 15 minutes unless a customer has called to let us know they will be late. If you are late and do not call, the Learning Lab may be made available to someone else.

To check availability and make a reservation for the Learning Lab, simply click Meeting and Study Rooms which is located under Find It on the front page of the library website. Customers are encouraged to bring personal external storage devices, but you can purchase a 16GB flash drive for $6.00 if needed. Personal devices (such as guitar, keyboard or external hard drive) should connect via Firewire or USB.
